Precautions Hypersensitivity. Low Na diet; CHF, edema, or cirrhosis; hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis. Discontinue if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days. Renal failure. Childn <6 yr.
Indication Used to treat the symptoms of too much acid.
Adult Dosage Tab Adult & childn >12 yr 2-4 tabs. Susp Adult & childn >12 yr 10-20 mL.
Side Effects Na alginate: Anaphylactic reaction/shock; bronchospasm; bloating, flatulence; urticaria. Na bicarbonate: Hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis; arrhythmia; apnea; bloating, flatulence; tiredness. Ca carbonate: Alkalosis, decreased appetite, hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis, milk-alkali syndrome; dizziness, headache; burping, constipation, flatulence, nausea, rebound hyperacidity, vomiting; weakness.
